I’m eager to see the Judicial Council Bill come to the floor of the Seanad. It is extremely important legislation.
We rarely have real and defining conversations about families left behind after their loved ones have become victims of murder, manslaughter and fatal assault. These mothers, fathers, siblings and grandparents have access to a kind of absolute terrible truth. New legislation around the length of sentences for murder and new legislations around parole are now on the statute books.
This new legislation will go some way to counter act the imbalance of the violence of the murderous crimes and those left behind whose lives are altered forever.
As a patron of AdVic I have met so many families destroyed by violence and left abandoned and alone by the slow pace and the boundaries of the justice system. That is why the Judicial Council Bill must come onto the floor of the Seanad immediately.
